2019’s forthcoming release, “OHBAHOY,” marks fifteen years of working with Miles as an on-call art director for brand identity and design across all media. OHBAHOY is the fourth full length album I’ve directed/designed for him, and the third with his band, The Rusted Hearts. It’s the 9th overall release combined with EPs and a live album (if my math is right). Miles advised me of the title in the spring of 2019 and that the next record’s art needed to be simple. No photography, but title based, blunt and in your face. Still knowing such a focal point upfront about a record whose songs I hadn’t heard yet at the time to identify a visual for it, I knew we needed to explore a few paths to get to simple and bold. I’ve included that process in the gallery below to show how OHBAHOY’s simplicity was accomplished. We landed in a gold zone and it all came together. The final packaging featuring a spot metallic gold ink on a black matte that A To Z Media was entrusted the services of to reproduce according to the design’s simple intents. The record is produced and mixed by Duane Lundy with The Rusted Hearts, and mastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering. Simple, strong, OHBAHOY. Available on vinyl, CD, and digital on October 4, 2019.
