The Pimps — The Sound of One Heart Breaking

This is the first recording of many that I would come to work on with the midwestern punk band, The Pimps. Stuart Johnson had been seeking a new path to try leading his band down with music and its identity. This project allowed me to soften up The Pimps by providing illustration, design and photography. Many ideas that never made it past the record’s drawing board for packaging considerations became band merch. So began a long artistic relationship with Stu and his many outfits: Pimps, Sons of Many Bitches, My God The Heat, The Nice Lords. It should be mentioned that Brian Milo, a wonderful photographer I met because of this project, contributed many film photos from a trip to Mexico he had taken for consideration of this album’s artwork, but for some reason that I can’t place years later, Stu opted to go in a specific direction with the release of this record. We returned to Brian’s photography for posters and various band materials to be produced over the years.
