Can Corporation of America began 2014 with a goal to target marketable awareness and education of steel packaging versus food packaging brands using plastic, aluminum and composite packaging. Metal packaging manufactured by Can Corporation is the most sustainable packaging in the world. Steel can be used and recycled infinitely without any loss of properties. Their business possesses a global product supplier solution to transition bulk packaging away from plastic, for example, to steel. Steel, for the better part of the last century, has the highest recyclability for INFINITE reuse. Pretty amazing. What draws it away form most bulk packaging brand options is its cost. Higher quality most often means a higher cost—and so many companies go with cheaper, dangerous options at the expense of the planet and the human race. We are at the tipping point on consumption—and Can Corp is out to enforce sustainable product packaging solutions. Can Corp’s key execs asked that I sign a non-disclosure at the time to keep from sharing the development of what was a new steel can with an air-lock steel cap. Aside from the ink and label design—this would be the best recyclable solution for bulk food packaging. The largest drawback is that you can’t visually see the food product in the container—but so what, grocery stores are filled with food products we’re all buying without being able to see what’s contained. Due to an industry wide economical impact that this product packaging pitch would incur for brand companies to switch from plastic to steel, Can Corp was aware of the deep waters they were treading with approaching key parent food brand companies about the packaging solution. They provided me a set of development cans in all sizes to redesign and develop new brand labels showcasing the transition of these 4 specific brand name products that they were scheduled to pitch the solution to. I mailed in this campaign and setup private online presentation ready files with product samples and design mockups for its executive board having met all their needs to move forward as they needed to. As to what, who, when and where they made their pitches, I don’t know much else. What I do know is that whenever I see these products at the grocery store, in their plastic, glass and composite materials, I can’t help but think that there’s a smarter, recyclable solution for supplying millions of food packages to consumers.
